Lake Country Players is a volunteer troupe of local residents who create productions that bring people togeher to experience the magic of theater.

Lake Country Players is a community theater company that strives for professional excellence in all aspects of production and is recognized regionally for its work. We are known for our proactive outreach into the community to bring the joy of live theater to new audiences.

OUR STORY

From One Comedy to a Regional Theater Company

What started as one small-town comedy has grown into fifteen seasons of live theater for the entire lake area. Here's how we got here.

2011 ~ A New Troupe is Born

Founded as The Greene County Players, LCP staged its first production, The Dixie Swim Club, at Festival Hall under founding Artistic Director John Copelan.

2013-2014 ~ Expanding Our Range

The company takes on Broadway comedies like The Curious Savage and Moon Over Buffalo, and begins its first ventures into musical theater with Smoke on the Mountain.

2012 ~ Dinner Theater Debuts

Tasties, Toddies & Theatrics launches, a one-act comedy and cabaret concept that becomes a beloved seasonal tradition..

2022~ Continued Grown

Clue: On Stage and 9 to 5 The Musical, the latter also a PAPA collaboration, bring fresh energy to LCP's growing repertoire.

2015 ~ A New Name, A Regional Home

The organization incorporates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and becomes The Lake Country Players, reflecting a troupe and audience that now spans the entire lake area, not just Greene County.

2019 ~ Our Biggest Production Yet

Big Fish becomes LCP's most ambitious production to date, marking a new scale of musical theater for the company.

2020-2021~ Resilience Through Challenge

LCP's 10th anniversary season is delayed by the pandemic. The company returns to the stage in 2021 with Southern Fried Funeral, a collaboration with the Putnam Alliance for the Performing Arts (PAPA).

2026~ A Landmark Season

Lake Country Players is proud to be among the first community theaters in the region chosen to stage Come From Away.

Live theater is at its best in the moment the curtain opens and the audience and cast agree to share something together. Thank you for being part of that moment with us, as an audience member, a volunteer, or a donor.

OUR VENUE

Home at Festival Hall

Every Lake Country Players production comes to life at Festival Hall, an intimate 192-seat venue in the heart of downtown Greensboro. Since 2011, this historic space has hosted every LCP performance, round tables, warm lighting, and not a bad seat in the house.

Festival Hall isn't LCP's own venue, it's the community space we're proud to call home for every show.

COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP

Stronger Together: Our Regional Arts Alliance

Great community theater doesn't happen in isolation. Regional arts alliances connect organizations like ours: sharing resources, expanding opportunities for performers and audiences, and strengthening the broader arts ecosystem across Middle Georgia. Collaboration means more people get to participate, and more communities get access to great live theater.

Lake Country Players is a proud member of the Lake Country Arts Alliance, a coalition supporting and promoting the arts across the Lake Oconee region.

Over the years, LCP has also partnered on individual productions with other regional theater organizations, including a 2021 and 2022 collaboration with the Putnam Alliance for the Performing Arts (PAPA) on Southern Fried Funeral and 9 to 5 The Musical. While LCP's primary ongoing alliance today is with the Lake Country Arts Alliance, these past partnerships reflect the same spirit of regional collaboration that continues to shape our work.

We believe the arts are stronger when local organizations work together: sharing stages, resources, and audiences to build a richer cultural life across the lake area.
